CANCELLED Volkshop hearing, solar options, revised board and committee docs on Select Board Dec. 19 agenda

NOTE: Due to illness among board members and their families, the December 19 meeting and hearing have been cancelled and will be rescheduled. The board adds good wishes to all:

“As the holidays are fast approaching, we wish all our friends, and neighbors a very Merry Christmas. We also honor each individual as we celebrate in different ways including our neighbors celebrating Kwanzaa and Chanukah.”

A public hearing and mix of issues await the Select Board at their December 19 meeting. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Meetinghouse and will be broadcast on local cable and live-streamed at this link – or viewers can try the new system in the works at this link.

Public hearing for Volkshop auto graveyard. The board will hold a public hearing on renewal of auto recycling/auto graveyard license for Larry and Vicky Wedge, dba Volkshop at 119 Sabbathday Road. An overload of vehicles previously blocked emergency access and resulted in code violations. Volkshop has undertaken clearing and clean-up and now seeks an unconditional operating license. See their application, recent site photos, and related documents at pp. 18-27 of the meeting agenda packet.

Revised application and guidelines for board and committee appointments. The board will consider revised documents for applying to and being considered for town boards and committees. Questions over the process and appointment criteria prompted the board’s review. Read their draft “New Gloucester Board and Committee Application Process” document and related materials at pp. 34-42.

Environmental Resources Committee on solar and recycling. The ERC will present solar options for the Town (p. 33) and will seek direction from the board about the proposed scope of ERC’s work to reviewing recycling.

Grant options to support Upper Village planning. Town Planner Natalie Thomsen will present options for grant applications to fund preliminary work—boundary and resource surveys, analysis of plans and zoning—to help move forward plans for the Upper Village. [pp. 28-32]
