You know you are in the State of Maine or at least in a Maine state of mind, when you are waiting for the main gate to open at the Wildlife Park, and all the vehicles are lined up patiently anticipating the official opening time at 930 a.m., despite the temptation of the gravel bypass lane to the left of the gate.
It is noteworthy that all the (ten or so) vehicles queued in line on Friday morning waited for the park staff to unlock the gate before “proceeding straight ahead” as instructed on the welcome sign.
I can think of some urban places where the cars would be streaming around the bypass at the main gate to gain a better place in the ticket line. And then again perhaps, these may have all been polite visitors from Canada.
