Work plan for state bridge and road projects unveiled
AUGUSTA – Sen. Ned Claxton, D-Auburn, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for the state and region. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation projects throughout the state.
“Many of the people I speak to in the district talk about the need for infrastructure improvements,” said Sen. Claxton. “I am very pleased to see a strong investment in roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure across the state. In particular, upgrades to Routes 11, 121 and 231 are much needed.”
According to the MDOT, the work plan includes more than $2.44 billion worth of construction and maintenance, which includes more than 1,900 work items. The three-year plan estimates MDOT will invest in 199 miles of highway construction and rehabilitation; 1,142 miles of pavement preservation; 1,800 miles of light capital paving for roads and highways; 203 spot and safety improvements; and 203 bridge projects.
The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for Senate District 20 – Auburn, Mechanic Falls, Minot, New Gloucester and Poland – in 2019:
Paving projects
East Poland Road in Minot beginning 0.02 of a mile north of the Poland town line and extending north 0.11 of a mile to Route 11.
- Aggregate Hill Road in Poland beginning at Route 26 and extending north 4.21 miles to Empire Road.
- Empire Road in Poland beginning at Route 122 and extending north 4.39 miles to Route 11.
- Megquire Hill Road, Flint Road in Poland beginning at the Oxford town line and extending south 6.38 miles to Route 26.
- Route 11 in Poland beginning at 0.36 of a mile east of Sandy Lane and extending 0.17 of a mile.
- Allen Road in New Gloucester beginning at Route 231 and extending east 1.83 miles.
Ditching/culvert maintenance
- Route 121 in Mechanic Falls beginning at the Oxford town line and extending north 4.57 miles to the Poland town line.
- Route 231 in New Gloucester, ditching beginning at North Pownal Road and extending north 3.47 miles to South Estes Road.
Bridge improvements
- Red Bridge over Little Androscoggin River in Mechanic Falls located 0.09 mile north of Pine Street.
- Taylor Brook Bridge over Taylor Brook in Auburn located 0.03 of a mile north of Chicoine Avenue.
- Minot Corner Bridge over Little Androscoggin River at Empire Road and Poland town line in Minot will receive an epoxy treatment.
- Vietnam Memorial West Bridge over the west channel of the Androscoggin on Auburn-Lewiston city line bridge joint replacement.
Safety improvements
- Route 136 and Mill Street in Auburn intersection reconstruction.
- Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport safety and infrastructure improvements.
- Academy Street and Main Street; Elm Street and Main Street; Minot Avenue and Elm Street; and Minot Avenue and High Street in Auburn intersection improvements.
- Route 4, Fair Street, Martin Street, Public Boat Launch and Turner Street in Auburn intersection improvement.
- East Chestnut Street in Mechanic Falls slope stabilization/protection beginning 0.02 of a mile southeast of East Chestnut Street and extending southeast 0.06 of a mile.
- Auburn gate mechanism reliability improvements at three rail crossing locations.
Other
- Pan Am Rail improvements from Yarmouth to Waterville.
- Citylink operating assistance.
- Hotel Road in Auburn reserved construction funding.
- Small urban area transit equipment funding.
