Volunteers from New Gloucester and Windham attended a recent training covering all the basics of measuring and remeasuring windows as part of the Window Dressers program. Desiree Price, the program manager for Maine and New Hampshire, provided an in-depth overview of the process. The Measurer has a critical role is the first contact with those who have ordered window inserts and initiates the process with a welcoming phone call and introduction to the program. Two volunteers on each team then make arrangements to go to the home, assess the windows, measure and record the data, review the order with the customer and collect payment. Those who cannot afford the window inserts are able to get windows at the special rate or for free.

All who order windows are asked to participate in a 4-hour shift at the Community Build for every 3-5 inserts that are made.
The Community Build is being held at AMVETS Hall in New Gloucester on January 16 to 23rd 2026. At the end of the Community Build, people who have ordered the inserts, can pick them up and take them home.
It is still possible to order window inserts by placing an order online or calling 207-596-3073. We will be accepting inserts until mid November.
We are also looking for volunteers to help at the Community Build
Here is the link for the signup: https://signup.com/go/gukkyub. As you will see, there are many possible shifts, times, days and jobs you can sign up for. We appreciate your willingness to help. Feel free to choose a time and job that works best for you.
There are also opportunities to provide lunch on the days of the Community Build. This is a great chance for local businesses or organizations to help out! Food is always welcome.
By all accounts, it is a fun day with people of all ages and abilities joining together in this community event.
