Wheel on down to Chandler Mill Pond

| Tom Driscoll – April 1 |

Chandler Mill Pond winter ice is out, though the springtime sun is not!

Nevertheless, welcoming and easily walkable trails radiate out through the surrounding woodlands, in need of day hikers.

If your chair has wheels, it is a gentle downhill roll from the paved parking lot along the paved walkway all the way to the sandy shoreline. During “mud season” asphalt paths sans potholes are a rare find.

Perhaps a “Stop Ahead” sign at the shoreline would be a helpful addition.

Chandler Mill Pond is within a short drive for most of us in town. The paved parking lot is just off Snow Hill Road near the Maine Turnpike overpass.

Early springtime is a fine time to walk in the woods. Be prepared, and the next time the sun peeks out, take the short drive over, park for free, and walk the easy trails around Chandler Mill Pond.

The snow is gone, the leaves are down, and you can see through nature all around.

And better yet, the black flies and mosquitoes are still social distancing – but not for long.
