‘Wednesday Walk’ at Sabbathday Lake March 1

We had another good walk at Range Pond State Park on a different trail last week along the shore.  Eight walkers navigated the trek, which had some icy spots but mostly packed snow.

We decided to try again for a walk on Sabbathday Lake on March 1st, 10 am.  With the cold weather and the new snow (and I’m hoping for some blue sky), it will be a good time to walk the lake.  There are at least 9 inches of ice over the entire lake, with some areas having upwards of 12 inches.

Let’s meet at Barefoot Beach (some remember it as Outlet Beach).  Parking will be along the road.  You can find Barefoot Beach at 106 Outlet Road, New Gloucester, Maine.

Please dress for the weather and the walking conditions of the day.  There will be a few inches of light snow on the surface, so snowshoes might be a good idea.  Ice grippers will also work.  There are currently snowmobile tracks around the lake, making for easy walking on packed snow, but I’m not sure if there will be fresh tracks on Wednesday since the forecast is for more snow on Tuesday.  Cross-country skis will work as well for anyone looking for a different kind of adventure.

Stay safe and keep active.
