Thorncrag Sanctuary was a wonderful surprise last week. We walked 2.5 miles on well maintained trails that gave us a good workout. There are several artifacts along the way, including stone fireplaces and benches and a stone couch. We walked up to the 510-foot peak, which is the highest point in Lewiston. This sanctuary sits as a green capstone, a forested oasis surrounded on three sides by urban and suburban development. We did not see any birds to speak of – must not be the right time of year!
We’ve been timing our Bradbury Mountain hike to hit peak autumn color. This is it, and we will meet at Bradbury Mountain State Park on Wednesday, October 9th, at 10 a.m., to hike to the top and take in the views. We will meet in the parking lot located to the right after you enter the park. You can find more information here. The GPS address is 528 Hallowell Road, Pownal.
Please come prepared for the weather and the trail which will have some rocks and roots.
Stay active and safe,
Anne Maurice
