While most of us stayed inside during this week’s nor’easter, it turns out the birds did too (figuratively).
Only an estimated 100 birds crossed Cumberland County last night (Thursday during the big rain) — a dramatic drop during what is peak migration season here in Maine. Maybe E-ZPass was down again.
For perspective: on a clear night earlier this month, on Tuesday May 13, roughly 3.3 million birds passed overhead.
Even nature takes a rain check.
See Feathered Friends Flock to New Gloucester this Spring for additional information on how it is that we can count the birds flying overhead at nighttime.
