CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Maine — The sheriff with jurisdiction over New Gloucester says he was not notified when Portland Police executed a search warrant in the town.
WMTW’s 8 Investigates is learning more about what happened during the raid of a duplex where a family living in one of the units said police began firing gas grenades into their home with no warning.
Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce said he still doesn’t know all the details but added he was not notified Portland Police would be conducting the warrant. Joyce said a lack of communication could have led to a much bigger problem.
“The day it happened, nobody knew about it,” Joyce told Maine’s Total Coverage.
Because New Gloucester does not have a police department, Sheriff Joyce is essentially the police chief of the area.
He tells us he was not notified Portland Police and Maine State Police would be traveling to his jurisdiction and executing the warrant.
