On Thursday May 23, the Shaker Herb House at Shaker Village was lifted, sloooooowwwwly, to make room for restoration of the foundation. A number of spectators brought lawn chairs to watch the progress, inch by inch, as hydraulic jacks lifted the building just enough each time to add another layer of cribwork to support the massive building (over 100 tons!) A table of treats and an urn of coffee sustained the crowd over the course of the day.
