September is here and that means school is in session, gardens are being harvested, and summer is on its way out. There are many things to do around town this month, including the annual New Gloucester Community Fair on September 6!
Enjoy the garden bounty with workshops from Pineland Farms including seed saving, garlic braiding, and apple cider making. If flowers are more your thing, don’t miss Pineland’s newest offering, Sips & Snips where you can pick your own flowers while enjoying drinks from Sylvia’s Mobile Bar.
Welcome fall with a visit to Royal River Orchards for their corn maze and apple picking, open on September 1. Pineland Farms’ corn maze is in its 10th season, and their pumpkin patch will be opening on September 27.
You can prepare for chillier weather by attending the Window Dressers presentation on September 3. Ready to snuggle up with some good reads? Don’t miss the Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library Fall Book and Bake Sale on September 14. The Library will host a talk with Maine author Caitlin Shetterly, author of Modified and Made for You and Me. Regular library events will continue in September, including storytime with Ms. Emily on Sundays and Wednesdays, Mahjong Monday Nights, and 1:1 with GNG Community Connectors.
There are a few opportunities to hear live music, including a benefit concert with Yard Sauce for the Shaker Village and the 4th Annual Big Falls Music and Cider Fest.
New Gloucester’s trail network continues to grow, thanks to Royal River Conservation Trust, which will host its 37th Annual Meeting at Cunningham Farms on September 16. You can also get out on local trails with Pineland Farms during their Women’s Hike Night or Full Moon Hike.
Looking for indoor recreation opportunities? GNG Rec has you covered with Chair Yoga, Gentle Fitness, Puzzle Portal, and even an afternoon of Casino games!
Learn a new craft this season at Shaker Village with offerings like the Felted Wool Scarf Workshop and Fancy Whisk Broom Workshop.
Think it is too soon to start thinking about the December holiday season? Think again! Bring an unwrapped toy to the Labor Day Toys for Tots Cruise-In. Toys will be distributed to disadvantaged children at Christmas.
