Select Board to discuss Town Hall plans, revisit Sheriff’s Office substation and UTV

The Select Board returns to a mix of familiar and new items on December 4 at 7 p.m. in the Meetinghouse. The meeting will be live-streamed on Castus at this link.

Follow-up items include these:

Relocation of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s substation from the Town Hall Complex. A memo from Manager Bill Kerbin recommends the Public Works building as a landing spot, as the Sheriff’s Office determined on a site visit that the fire station is not suitable but Public Works is. Read more at p.22.

— Possible winter closure of Quarry Road; and

— Fire Rescue’s capital request for a UTV to provide off-road access for rescue and fire suppression. The request encountered a procedural snag at the Select Board and was revisited last meeting. It’s now back. (pp.23-30).

New items include these:

— Discussion of next steps regarding design/renovations of Town Hall. Near-term and longer-term, the current configuration of Town Hall presents issues of accessibility and functionality for staff and the public alike;

— A presentation and request by Royal River Conservation Trust Executive Director Alan Stearns to allow RRCT and the Bureau of Parks and Lands to put up signs and maintain the parking area on the town-owned shoulder by Woodman Road and Ayer Road. Read a memo from Stearns with updates on the Talking Brook Public Land project and plans for parking (pp.5-7);

— Proposed workshops on TIF financing and on the Personnel Policy (likely including salary ranges for town positions), and

— A public hearing on renewal of the Volkshop’s automobile graveyard/junkyard license. The business is owned by Larry and Vicky Wedge and located at 119 Sabbathday Road. Materials in the agenda packet include a nod of approval from Code Officer Rick Haas (pp.13-21).
