Roll-offs–and masks–at the Transfer Station

| Joanne Cole |

Two temporary roll-offs for household trash greeted residents at the transfer station late this week, along with highly visible signage.

The roll-offs are one element of the town’s response after someone closely associated with a town employee was confirmed to have Covid-19 and the employee found to have breached health safety protocols. Closures and quarantines followed, impacting transfer station and public works operations, as town manager Brenda Fox-Howard detailed in a November 11 message to the community.

In her message Fox-Howard emphasized the need to comply with the state’s recent directives to wear masks in public places, and outlined the immediate steps being taken to safely permit trash disposal.

When the transfer station will re-open at full operation is uncertain. “The manager has been diligent with protecting staff and the community,” board of selectmen chair Karen Gilles told NGX. “Safety is paramount and we appreciate everyone’s patience.”

Until full operations resume, residents should be aware that once the roll-offs are filled, the transfer station will close for the day.
