Readers share fond memories of Frozen Custard

NGX invited readers to share their fond memories of the beloved Hodmans’ Frozen Custard. Thanks to those who responded. Here’s what they wrote:

When we kids and were taken to get a cone at Frozen Custard, it was a fun time. We loved the pretty lights that shined so bright like a beacon. Over the years many people that came to visit with us would ask to go as they had heard how special it was. My daughter Marnie worked there in high school and loved the family as I did. Thank you for all your years for being there for all of us. You will be missed. ❤️❤️

Hodgmans’ as an important part of a family journey. After a trip from North Yarmouth to Weld visiting elder relatives, (which probably felt like the end of the earth to my young daughters) we would anticipate a stop at Hodgmans’ by playing a little game. Everyone tried to guess what the flavor of the day was. Such fond memories ! Now as a resident of New Gloucester I have enjoyed living close to the famous Hodgmans’. How sad it is that that will no longer be. Linda Shute

I grew up in New Gloucester only a couple of miles from the frozen custard stand. Getting a frozen custard was something we did a lot during the summertime while I was growing up. I think my sisters and I bugged my mom because so many evenings after supper we would beg her to go get a frozen custard! But she loved it too so she gave in to our begging many times!! I loved the chocolate ..and the black raspberry.. we would call it “blic risp” because of how it was abbreviated on the sign, and would be very excited to see that sign up! Even after moving away from NG we would make it a point to go get a frozen custard whenever we were driving through. My husband was sold on it after his first visit. Thank you for bring joy to so many for so many years!

When we would ride our four wheeler from our home on Hatch Road with all three of us and sometimes the dog just to get a custard. Those were some of my best memories and both of our yellow labs have LOVED Hodgmans Vanilla! Celeste Prescott

For 35 years my family brought me to Fro Co for Mothers Day! Rain or shine we were there!
