Public hearing Tues. March 19 at Amvets on proposed zoning changes re ADUs, housing density

The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to New Gloucester’s zoning ordinance on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Amvets Hall.

Several proposed amendments are to comply with Maine’s recent housing opportunity law, LD 2003, which loosens certain zoning restrictions to boost housing availability statewide. Provisions center on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), allowable residential densities, and affordable housing incentives.

The March 19 meeting and hearing will begin with an overview presentation on LD 2003 in the context of New Gloucester. (View the presentation at this link.) Opportunities for comments and questions from the public will follow.

A new floodplain management ordinance and revised review provisions will also be discussed at the hearing. Find the proposed ordinance revisions for all three topics at this link.

Please note: The meeting and hearing will be at the Amvets Hall, 1095 Lewiston Road, not the usual Meetinghouse location. It will not not be broadcast live or live-streamed but will be recorded for later viewing online and on local cable.
