Since the burning of a resident’s pride flag in March, many of these flags in support of LGBTQ neighbors have appeared on local homes and buildings, including the New Gloucester Public Library. Town Manager Bill Kerbin, seeing the rainbow flag waving from the library’s porch, ordered it removed. “We have no policy about flags on town buildings,” he explained, so he had consulted the Town’s legal counsel who advised its removal until a policy could be developed and approved. Kerbin told NGX that he expected that the Select Board would take up this issue at an upcoming meeting.
Asked about any follow-up action planned in support of the strong statement he and the Select Board had released condemning the anti-LGBTQ incident, Kerbin noted that he expected that this too would be addressed by the Select Board at a future meeting.
