Paving bids, Fire Rescue Chief position, Rec Dept MOU top June 6 Select Board agenda

The Select Board will take up a mix of familiar and new topics at their Monday June 6 meeting. The meeting begins at 7 pm at the Meetinghouse and will be live-streamed on Town Hall Streams at this link and broadcast on NG Cable TV. Find the full agenda and relevant documents here.

Among June 6 agenda items:

Paving/chip seal bids. The board will open paving/chip seal bids for work to be started this month. Six road segments on Snow Hill Road, Sabbathday Road, Penney Road and Jack Hall Road are on the to-do list. Whether the $477,700 voters approved in February will be sufficient to address all six and which method(s) to use are among questions the bid opening should finally help answer. Public Works Director Ted Shane is expected to attend and join the discussion. [See agenda packet pp. 21-44]

Fire Rescue Chief position, hours and duties. The board will resume discussion of the Fire Rescue Chief position and its hours and duties. At a previous meeting, board members broached whether the Chief position should be full-time, as in the past, or part-time as is currently the case with the Interim Chief position. The board wanted input from Fire Rescue department members and the community before making any decision – hence the return of the topic on June 6. A search for a full-time chief has so far been unsuccessful. [p. 61]

Memorandum of Understanding between NG and Gray Recreation Departments. The board will hear an update on a Memorandum of Understanding being developed between New Gloucester and Gray to support the special revenue account that New Gloucester voters approved for the Recreation Department’s programs. In recent years the New Gloucester and Gray Recreation Departments have teamed up and dramatically expanded offerings for both communities; the MOU will document the details of their cooperation. Climate Resilience grant request. The board will consider a request from the town’s Environmental Resources Committee to partner with environmental consultant 207permaculture, L3C to submit a community climate resilience grant request to the State. If successful, the grant could be used to address local climate impacts, such as managing invasive species, wetland and lake protection and solid waste management. The grant application requires formal support from the town. [pp.45-55]

Several other topics are on the board’s docket, including reports from town departments for May. Find the full agenda packet, including departmental reports, at this link.
