Jennifer Lund, Maine State Apiarist, will be leading an Open Hive at Shaker Village, 707 Shaker Road, New Gloucester, on Saturday, July 27th at 10 a.m.
We will be opening several hives, inspecting the honey bees, identifying the queen and the drones.
We will be doing mite counts, and, if conditions are right, make a nucleus. All the while we will be sharing information and answering lots of questions.
In case of rain, we will have two of those pop-up tents for the hardy souls that attend.
Cumberland County Beekeepers Association members and local beekeepers should bring their own protective equipment. There will have a dozen or so veils and gloves for members of the public, who should wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants.
