NGX eds note: In accordance with state statutes, the select board will not appoint a replacement for George Colby, but will decide whether to hold a special election or to add his seat to the ballot for the June election. The board will take up this issue at their Feb 22nd meeting.

NEW GLOUCESTER — Former Selectman George Colby submitted his written resignation Feb. 2, Selectboard Chairperson Karen Gilles confirmed earlier this week. Colby verbally resigned at the Feb. 1 meeting at which the Selectboard was slated to set a date for his recall election.
Gilles said that the board will vote to formally accept his resignation and cancel the March 30 election at their next meeting on Feb. 22.
