New Gloucester’s 250th: Heads up!

There are three 250th Celebration events taking place in April and May that you may want to think about – and prepare for – ahead of time.

WHERE: Coolidge Family Farm, starting at 7PM.
WHAT: An evening of short readings, recitations, and performances.
WHO: Any New Gloucester resident, and any SAD 15 high school student or teacher.
HOW: Participants will have 10 minutes each to present their selections of essays, very short stories, poems, speeches, or dialogues. The works can be famous favorites, new finds, or originals by the performer. A microphone will be available.

Experience is not necessary!

This is hometown entertainment, not a contest, and not supposed to be slick or professional.

  • Shy? Not a problem, the audience will be behind you all the way.
  • A ham? Great! Own the stage!
  • Somewhere in the middle? That’s where most of us are. Lots of room to be comfortable.

What will make this wonderful is a full roster of participants from teens to umpteens, sharing something they want to share with us, and having fun with it.

*Pre-registration is required. Forms and information are now available at the Library and Town Office.

WHERE: Community Building – hours to be announced
WHAT: This is a contest, and a way for us to share how we see our town and townspeople.
WHO: All photographers must be New Gloucester residents, and all pictures must be taken of people, places, and events in New Gloucester. This is for non-professionals.
HOW: Photos will be judged in three age categories by our local photographers Kevyn Fowler and Ethan Woodman Fowler, and winners announced the last day of the show. Besides first – third prizes, there will also be a Best In Show Judges prize, and a Peoples’ Choice prize. Winning photographs will be eligible for inclusion in the next New Gloucester Historical Society calendar.

*Pre-registration is required. Forms and information will be available online and at the Library and Town Office.

TOWN-WIDE YARD SALE – May 25/26 Memorial Day Weekend

WHERE: Your house/neighborhood via our listing
WHAT: 250th Celebration promotion for yard sales all over New Gloucester
WHO: Any New Gloucester resident/neighborhood group/organization that wants to hold a yard sale on Memorial Weekend.
HOW: The Ad Hoc 250 Celebration Committee will have a page on the NG Town Website where we will list the addresses of all the participants who register with us. We will also do promotions with area papers, websites, and media “what’s happening” listings for one or both days of the weekend day.  “250 Celebration” lawn signs will be available to help people find you.

If you have been considering getting rid of stuff, this is the year and the weekend. Start purging your shelves and closets now!

*Registration forms will be made available at the Town Office, Library, and online in the next few weeks.
