MSAD 15 voters approve air quality bond, reject High School improvements

Plan view of GNGHS improvements

New Gloucester and Gray voters approved a bond package for air quality improvements at four MSAD 15 schools – Question 1 on the referendum ballot – by a 981 vote margin on Tuesday. The vote authorizes up to $8.9 million in borrowing for the project, with a grant/loan of $6.4 million from the Maine Department of Education providing a substantial portion of the funding.

A bond for facilities improvements at the High School failed by some 1,365 votes – Question 2. It would have authorized borrowing up to $57 million for upgrades to performing arts facilities, the cafeteria and kitchen, athletic fields and gym. Question 3, an option for a synthetic turf field if Question 2 passed, was decisively rejected. — J.C.
