Maxine Ethel Hodgkin Teague, age 78, passed away at home after a short but brave battle with cancer on October 10, 2024. Maxine was known for her strength and determination. Her early life in New Gloucester, post-depression era, shaped her values and work ethic. The short story she wrote about this experience was published in the book May Basket Days and Bean Suppahs, available at the New Gloucester Public Library.
Maxine attended Memorial School before graduating from Gray New Gloucester High School in 1964. Before having children, she worked as a babysitter and in a shoe shop in Lewiston. Maxine was very proud to have earned certification as a teacher’s assistant in a Headstart program. After her children were in school, she worked at Clyde’s Bar and the Tic Toc lounge in Cranston, Rhode Island. Following her husband’s retirement, she and Dave had many great adventures delivering the Sun Journal 363 nights a year in Auburn.
She leaves behind her son William L. Teague and his wife Kristina, daughter Tarine N. Teague, grandchildren David, Ally, Tommy, Francesca, Veronica, Will, Bryan, Anthony, Erin, Patrick, Kalli and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Vernon, Gail, Frances, Sharon, Charles, and Audrey as well as many nieces and nephews, including her special niece Miss K. Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband David S. Teague, son David S. Teague Jr., as well as siblings Odna, Carolyn, Ernest, Lorraine, Herbert, Andrew, Sylvia, and Kathleen.
Maxine was a devoted member of the New Gloucester Bible Church, where services will be held in her memory at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 18. The service will be followed by a luncheon gathering in the church hall, where friends and family are invited to share in celebrating her life and the legacy she leaves behind.
