I am forwarding the information that I had prepared to share with the selectmen at this past Monday evening’s meeting.
As you can see, it is simply a data sheet without any specific budget requests.
The data illustrates that with community support, through donations and purchases, we are able to provide funding to support specific needs for the New Gloucester Public Library.
The Friends’ support supplements Town funding but cannot replace any budget shortfalls.
The volunteer work we do supplements but cannot replace the work of our two valued librarians.
I will add my own comments here:
I believe the Library is a critical part of being a healthy, vibrant, attractive community as well as a valuable resource for people of all ages and from all walks of life. It should be funded so that the current staffing and services remain.
