Fiddlehead School of Arts & Sciences invites families to discover an educational experience where creativity, curiosity, and community come together. With Open House events scheduled for Tuesday, February 4 and Thursday, February 6 – both running from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – prospective families have the opportunity to explore how Fiddlehead nurtures students through an arts-integrated, Reggio-Emilia-inspired curriculum. To get a glimpse of the magic in action, enjoy a short video found on Fiddlehead’s homepage.
Located at 25 Shaker Road in Gray, Fiddlehead was one of the first free public charter schools established in Maine. Rooted in the Reggio-Emilia approach, the school offers arts-infused, inquiry-based learning that encourages creativity for younger students and project-based learning that develops critical thinking and a deep connection to the natural world for older students.
“Families often share that their children flourish at Fiddlehead in ways they hadn’t imagined. Parents tell us how their kids come home excited about what they’ve learned and eager to return each day,” said Fiddlehead’s Founder and Executive Director Jacinda Cotton-Castro. “Our graduates are active members of the community. They are nonprofit leaders, performers, scientists and much more. Some of our graduates even return to the school as teachers to give back to up-and-coming generations. We’re proud to create a nurturing environment that truly brings out the best in our students.”
Fiddlehead began in 2004 as an early childhood center, and in 2013, it expanded to become a public charter school. Today, the school proudly serves students from 15 different districts across the Lakes Region with a dedicated team of roughly 40 educators and staff members, all committed to supporting student growth and success.
