| Obituary in the Press Herald |

AUBURN – Kathleen B. Wolfson, 71, of New Gloucester, passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Kathleen was born on Oct. 1, 1951, daughter to O. James and Rena (Hagerman) Baker. She was born in Gardiner, later moving to Falmouth and attending the local school system, graduating from Falmouth High School in 1970. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree from The University of Southern Maine at Gorham, she was very eager to begin what would be her 43-year career as a teacher. Kathleen was a dedicated and passionate educator, working for the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf her first year. She spent the remaining 42 years at Poland Community School, where she made many special and lifelong friends. She loved teaching so much, that even years after her retirement she could be found tutoring her granddaughter and best friend, Maddie.

In 1970, while attending USM, she met the love of her life, Daniel Wolfson. They got married on January 4, 1975, and spent a total of 53 wonderful years together until her passing.

Until her later years, Kathleen could be found in her garden. With towering tomato plants and stunning flower displays, this was one of her favorite places to be. In her later years, Kathleen loved being home, where she created many special memories with her family, and of course her cats. Her favorite place then became sitting next to Maddie, reading a book together.

She was a mentor, a friend, and one of the kindest souls on earth. Her bright light and selfless way of living will always be remembered and greatly missed, as will her quick wit and humor.

Kathleen is predeceased by her parents and sister Barbara Baker. She leaves behind her husband Daniel Wolfson, her daughter Laura Wolfson and husband Mike Crandall, her granddaughter Madeline Crandall, as well as her sister Jane Bresnahan and brother-in-law Joseph Bresnahan. She also leaves behind her beloved cat Luna, one of many family “foster fails.”

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6, from 11a.m. followed by an in-house funeral service at 12 p.m., at The Fortin Group Funeral Home in Auburn.

Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin Group Funeral Home, 217 Turner Street Auburn, ME 04210, (207) 783-8545.
