Tuesday, June 10 is Election Day. Don’t forget to vote! Polls in New Gloucester will be open from 6am-8pm at the New Gloucester Fire Station. Sample ballots can be viewed on the town website, and absentee ballots are available at the town office.
Events happening this month include the 49th annual New Gloucester Historical Society Strawberry Festival, taking place the evening of June 26 in the vestry of the New Gloucester Congregational Church. Join your neighbors for a night of homemade biscuits, fresh local berries, and live music. The Pineland Farms Strawberry Moon Celebration runs June 19-21 at the Gillespie Farms strawberry patch.
The Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library will host a spring Book and Bake Sale on Sunday, June 8. The library kicks off its summer reading program the next week with a sign-up event on June 15, followed by daily programming for youth such as weekly Crafty Kids activities, movies, and a special visit from Chewonki on mammals of Maine.
Skystreakers R/C Club’s High Wing Fly-In and 2025 Swap Meet takes place on June 15, a fun opportunity to check out remote control planes.
Shaker Village is raising funds for a barn project at their June 15 Barn Sale Fundraiser. They also have a full slate of June workshops including market basket making, watercolor, perfumes, needle felting, punch needle, broom making, ribbon bucket basket, woven flower sleeves. If you are looking for more basketmaking opportunities, head to Gray to make an Underwater Woven Tote with Underwater Weaving Studio.
Once school lets out, take the kids to Pineland for recurring activities like Farmyard Storytime and Farmyard Helper and special offerings: salsa making and Frogs, Fish & Wiggles.
For adults, Pineland has a variety of events this month from an outdoor planter workshop to a full moon hike. The Garden at Pineland will open in June and you can attend a guided tour to learn more about their plantings.
GNG Rec continues to offer a host of recurring events for adults: Puzzle Portal, Chair Yoga, and Gentle Fitness.
GNG Connectors have regular times scheduled– you can meet them for one-on-one time, tea time, or coffee hour.
Finally, a heads-up that the Trek Across Maine will be coming through New Gloucester this year! The three-day ride starts and ends at Pineland Farms. Sign up to bike or volunteer in support of the American Lung Association, or at the very least, be patient and use caution when driving along the trek route over Father’s Day weekend.
