In support of our LGBTQ+ community: A statement from New Gloucester Dems

|From the New Gloucester Democrats website|

We are deeply saddened by another act of hate that has taken place in our town, with the burning of a New Gloucester resident’s pride flag. We unequivocally denounce this deeply disturbing act of violence directed towards our townspeople. As a town, it is more important than ever that we continually demonstrate our commitment to a diverse, welcoming, and inclusive community. The New Gloucester Dems stand firmly against hate and white supremacist culture, and we will always support inclusivity of all faiths, races, genders and gender identities, backgrounds, and sexual orientations.

We commend the New Gloucester Municipal Officers’ and Town Manager’s prompt statement on this incident. We hope that our state representatives will speak out to condemn this act as well.

To those in our LGBTQ+ community, and anyone else who is feeling disheartened by the darkness of this act, please know there are many in New Gloucester who stand with you and believe in inclusion, respect, and empathy for others. The New Gloucester Dems hope we can be a light for those who find themselves scared or worried about their place in our community. We pledge to support you, speak up for you, and fight for your rights. We will never stop working for peace and inclusion within New Gloucester and the great state of Maine.

New Gloucester United Against Racism is putting together a bulk order of pride flags for anyone interested, please consider supporting their efforts. Email newglounited@gmail.com to take part.
