NEW GLOUCESTER – The world has lost another of its wonderful treasures. Gwen Jordan, passed away at her home on Dec. 26, 2021, after spending a lovely Christmas with her wonderful family. She was born in Durham, Maine on March 12, 1928, the daughter of Alfred Ray Hunnewell and Rosamond Boynton Hunnewell. Gwen was a graduate of Edward Little High School, class of 1946. She married Sumner Jordan that same year and together they raised two children, Dennis and Daryl. In 1955 they purchased and operated Jordan’s Market in New Gloucester until 1972. She worked for the United States Postal Service in New Gloucester, Maine and Auburn, Maine. She later became Postmaster in Poland, Maine from 1986-1990 and in Minot, Maine from 1990-1993 until her retirement.

Her kind and loving spirit endeared her to all who met her. She recognized the good in everyone. Gwen loved babies and made them all smile. She was a talented seamstress and created many beautiful quilts. She was a very proud mother and enjoyed every adventure her children took her on. Gwen traveled abroad many times with her sister Glenys Rosa and her husband John. She would often say, “It’s all about memories!” Both her daughter and son provided her with wonderful grandchildren. She adored spending time with Kelly, Gary and Mandi. When the great-grandchildren came along, she nurtured them as well. Her support of them kept her young and happy. Gwen enjoyed spending time with all her friends at the Danville Church. They were very supportive of her. Their names were a regular topic of conversation. Gwen was a member of the Amvets Auxiliary Post #6.

Gwen is survived by her brother Rodney Hunnewell and wife Joan. She often said he was the best brother ever and she didn’t know what she would do without him. Gwen is also survived by her daughter Daryl Whiting and husband Gary, and daughter in law Dianna (Dina) Jordan. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Kelly Staples and husband Kurt. Gary Whiting and wife Sarah, Amanda Coulombe and husband Dennis. Her great grandchildren, Connor, Keegan and Caden Bardsley, Alexa McGovern and husband Kevin and Lauren Coulombe, were a source of pride for her. She also leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews. Gwen is predeceased by her parents, her husband and son Dennis. Gwen is also predeceased by a twin brother Glenwood Hunnewell., US Air Force, sister Glenys Rosa, brother Donald Hunnewell, US Air Force and brother Frederick Hunnewell. At Gwen’s request there will not be a funeral but rather Graveside Service and Celebration of Life in the Spring.
