The GNG Patriots’ playoff run came to an end Friday night, as a dominant Mt. Ararat team took the win, 57-37, in the Class A South regional final at the Portland Expo. The top-seeded Eagles will take on North winner Hampden Academy in the state championship next Friday.
Mt. Ararat started strong and took a 29-16 lead into halftime. GNG battled back in the third quarter, matching the Eagles’ 14 points, but were unable to close the gap in a decisive fourth quarter.
Abbey Steele led New Gloucester with 13 points, followed by Izzy Morelli with nine. Mt. Ararat’s Cali Pomerleau led all scorers with 14 points.
The Patriots finish with a 16-5 record, lasting memories and a season to be proud of. — J.C.
