The GNG Patriots defeated the Marshwood Hawks 53-47 in the Class A South basketball semifinals on Wednesday at the Portland Expo. The victory takes the GNG girls to the regional finals, where they’ll face top-seeded Mt. Ararat on Friday, February 21. The game tips off at 6 p.m. at the Expo.
In Wednesday’s semifinal game, GNG junior Ella Kenney led all scorers with 20 points, followed by sophomore guard Abbey Steele with 15. Steele’s clutch free throws down the stretch sealed the win for the Patriots. Sarah Theriault led Marshwood with 14 points.
The winner of the GNG vs. Mt. Ararat Class A South final will take on either Camden Hills or Hampden Academy from Class A North, for the state championship. The championship game takes place on Friday, February 28, at 6 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.
