The Gray-New Gloucester boys basketball team (18-2) earned a trip to the Class A South finals with a 62-56 win over Freeport on Wednesday night. It’s the team’s first trip to the regional finals since 1975.

The GNG Patriots will take on Noble High School (17-4) on Friday, February 23, at 8:45 p.m. at the Portland Expo. Noble edged GNG 82-78 when the teams last met, on February 5.

The winner of Friday’s regional final will face the winner of the Class A North final between Hampden Academy and Messalonskee High School. The victors will meet in the state championship game on Saturday, March 2.

Recording a stellar season of their own, the GNG girls basketball team reached the quarterfinals, finishing their season with a 15-4 overall record. Meanwhile, the GNG cheer squad were regional champions and fell just short of Ellsworth in the Class B championship.

These student-athletes join other GNG standout performances in indoor track and field, skiing and more this winter season. Congratulations to all!
