GNG Backyard Campout

Community members are invited to join in the inaugural GNG Backyard Campout. This event is a part of a statewide event in which more than 27 other communities are participating. Break out the family tent, unroll the sleeping bags, and take part in this fun family event beginning at approximately 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11, and wrapping up by 8 a.m., Sunday, July 12.

The program is straightforward. Register your household through the New Gloucester Parks and Recreation Department website, and then start planning what this long-standing family tradition will resemble. That could be resurrecting the old tent, creating your own shelter, or even just hopping in the family camper for the night.

As an added bonus, event participants will receive a Campout Kit plus the first 25 households to register each will receive a S’mores Kit. The Campout Kit will include all sorts of information on all the contests, safety tips, activity ideas and maybe even a guidebook that will include campfire stories and recipes to share that evening.

This program is not just about snoozing out in the backyard for a night. Event organizers also want the family to perform preparations during that day. They encourage campers to get creative by sharing some activity ideas and contests that can involve the whole family; moreover, this event can provide a great opportunity to foster Maine’s storied history of camping and outdoor recreation.

This program is hosted by New Gloucester Parks and Recreation Department as a part of a statewide program sponsored by Maine Parks & Recreation Association. It is free of charge, but participants are urged to register at https://ngrecreation.com/content/21458/gng-backyard-campout
