Gavin Damani Claxton

| Obituary from Wilson Funeral Home |

Gavin Damani Claxton, 22 of New Gloucester, Maine passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 4, 2024, born in Portland, Maine March 7, 2002. Gavin was the cherished son of Melissa (Marston) and Kevin Claxton, loving brother Terell Claxton, and his childhood beloved dog Moose, also of New Gloucester.

Gavin grew up in New Gloucester and was a 2020 graduate of Gray-New Gloucester High School and Portland Arts & Technology High School where he completed the Automotive Technology Program. He furthered his education and graduated Class of 2023 from Southern Maine Community College in South Portland with an Associate Degree in Applied Science (Automotive Technology). He briefly worked as an automotive technician at Maine Automotive and had recently landed his dream job as a driver for UPS in Auburn, ME. He had a passion for the environment, recycling and for cars at a very young age that never wavered. He enjoyed working on his car and motorcycle rides with his dad. He was an exceptionally bright young man and excelled in his love for automobiles of all kinds, specifically 6-6 manuals.

He was often perceived as unapproachable with a tough exterior but deep down he was one of the most empathetic and kind-hearted people. Many of his happiest days involved stopping and helping complete strangers with the tools he carried in his car and spending time with close friends and family. He regularly sought out his mom for long talks about strengthening his social and life skills, often spending time in the kitchen observing her. He always made sure to show his appreciation for each and every thing we did for him, especially for his meals as he enjoyed his mom’s cooking. He showed his love to us in his own way, never missing the chance to say thank you and good night.

Known for his warm and infectious smile, Gavin left a lasting impact on everyone he left behind. Grandmother Karen Marston, of North Windham, grandfather Kurt Marston of Limerick, aunt Jennifer (Marston) Clifford and her husband Justin of Hollis and uncle Jeremy Marston and his wife Erica of Scarborough, uncle Errol Williams, uncle Maclean Williams, uncle Dave Williams and his wife Issa, uncle Junior Claxton, uncle Merv Claxton and his significant other Tonya Vanterpool, aunt Sonia Richardson and her husband Jerry, aunt June France, aunt Lavern Claxton, aunt Lornette (Claxton) Dupont and her husband Tanza, aunt Sandra (Claxton) Marks and her husband Pecky all of St. Thomas, USVI, Orlando and Miami Florida. Great-grandmother Glennis Skillings, of Gray, special cousins Justin McEachin and Devin Del Campo, many loving cousins and extended family. He was predeceased by his aunt Jaslyn “Yvonne” Claxton, paternal grandparents, Claristine and Eardley Claxton, both of St. Thomas, USVI. Maternal great-grandfather, Frank G. Skillings of Gray.

As his parents we humbly ask you to help us keep his memory alive by being kind to one another, reach out to old friends, repair broken relationships and lend a hand to those that need the help most.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gavin’s name may be made to Cumberland County Federal Credit Union for a future Non-profit Fund to focus on mental illness.

A viewing will be held on Friday July 12, 2024 4:00pm-8:00pm under the direction of the Wilson’s Funeral Home of Gray, ME.
