Friends of the Library honors Jeffersons with Friends Volunteer Award

Bonnie and David Jefferson

The Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library is proud to announce that David and Bonnie Jefferson have been selected as the recipients of this year’s prestigious Friends Volunteer Award for outstanding service.

This recognition honors the couple’s unwavering commitment to literacy, community engagement, and their generous support of local library initiatives. The award celebrates years of dedicated volunteer work and meaningful contributions that have enriched the New Gloucester community.

The presentation took place at the New Gloucester Public Library on Sunday afternoon, October 19, during a regular board meeting. “It is with unending gratitude that we recognize Bonnie and David today as this year’s Friends award recipients,” said Carol Gillis of the Friends organization. Bonnie and David have participated in our meetings, volunteered for bake sales, provided a place to store our books between sales, and hauled, lugged, and loaded books when it’s time to set up or clean up from a book sale. They are engaged with ideas and always encourage us.

David and Bonnie have been unfailing supporters of the Friends’ popular Book & Bake Sales, helping to ensure the continued success of this cherished community event year after year. Over the years, David has also delivered used books to a local prison, while Bonnie has long shared donated books through the First Congregational Church Food Pantry of New Gloucester. Their steadfast generosity and tireless efforts embody the spirit of community service and fellowship that the Friends organization values deeply.

The Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library continues its mission to support library programs, literacy initiatives, and community activities. Through the dedication of volunteers like the Jeffersons, the organization helps ensure that the library remains a vital resource for children and adults alike – fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning.
