Friends of the Library Annual Meeting: Celebrating community, books, and shared purpose

On Sunday afternoon, May 18, the Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library gathered for their Annual Meeting—an inspiring afternoon celebrating community, books, and shared purpose.

The event began at 12:30 p.m. with refreshments and time to socialize, followed by the official meeting at 1:00 p.m. Members reviewed the past year’s accomplishments, current initiatives, and future goals.

A slate of officers for the Board of Directors was nominated and unanimously approved:

  • President: Annemarie Salzberg
  • Vice President: Heather Heston
  • Secretary: Robin Fleck
  • Treasurer: Samantha Hopta

Outgoing treasurer Diantha Grant was thanked for her three years of dedicated service.

The afternoon concluded with a special author talk by Margy Burns Knight, award-winning writer and recipient of the National Education Association’s Human & Civil Rights Award. Knight shared the inspiration and research behind her latest book, Who Needs a Statue? She offered thoughtful insights into her writing process, all while weaving in a warm sense of humor that kept the audience laughing.

The meeting was a reminder of the Library’s vital role as more than a home for books—it’s a place for connection, learning, and community. Thank you to all who attended.
