Ever wanted to travel through time?

Have you ever wanted to travel through time? Well, now is your chance. Time-travel back through Maine and New Gloucester history with the New Gloucester Public Library Summer Reading challenge.

Since Covid-19 has changed everything, our regular Summer Reading Program is not possible this year. Miss Suzan and Miss Carla have come up with a fun and educational way to keep everyone reading, adults and kids alike. We will travel back along a timeline to some important dates in Maine history; 1820, Maine becomes a state; 1776, US becomes a country; 1774, New Gloucester is incorporated. These are only a few.

This group goal could not be simpler. Keep a log of your and your children’s reading time. For every 20 minutes of reading, we travel back a year in time. As we reach big dates we will post that achievement on our Facebook page. Then perhaps you and your kids could do some research around that special date, how and why it happened and the like.

Call us at 926-4840 to register and then report your reading times whenever you like by calling us to let us know. This will continue through until the start of SAD15’s school year.

Hopefully next year things will be at a point where we can hold our traditional Summer Reading Program with all that goes with it; SRP kick-off with entertainment, SRP wrap-up party with our beloved Library Players performing an original play for all to enjoy, punch and snacks including our wonderful watermelon fingers, and all of us being able to be together again. Who knows, hugs may be acceptable by then. That will be a fabulous day!
