Shibori and Indigo Dyeing Shawl
June 1 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$100Shibori and Indigo Dyeing Fiber Workshop
Saturday, June 1, 2024
1pm-4pm
IN PERSON at Shaker Village
Come spend a half day at the Village with fiber artist Mary DeLano creating a Shibori scarf. Participants will receive a large organic cotton shawl (43” x 90”) to dye in an indigo vat. Two different techniques for patterning the scarf will be available – the Slinky method or the honeycomb method. Both are simple techniques that produce delightful patterns. Students will also have an opportunity to see the Shibori that Mary made during a workshop in Japan last year. All proceeds from this class will go to benefit the Herb House campaign.
If you can’t make the class, and are interested in a scarf, a limited number of scarves that Mary dyes will be auctioned off after the class.
No experience required. This class also produces guaranteed laughter and new friends.
Participants need to bring:
-Tight fitting dish washing gloves
All other materials will be supplied.
This class is planned to be outdoors under tents.
Class size: 10
A morning session is also being offered.
Mary is graciously donating all money from this workshop as a fundraiser for our Herb House Cultural Center project. Her donation, along with any that you’d like to add at checkout, will be matched 25% by a Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This project, in part, will give Shaker Village expanded space for traditional arts workshops and communal events as well as, obviously, an expanded Herb House facility that will allow for us to produce, dry, and process more herbs in the traditional Shaker method. We are beyond excited for this project and thank you for your support!
