Kathy Polletto has been weaving baskets for over 40 years. She began weaving because she was very interested in 18th century history and she admired how utilitarian, everyday items were handmade with such skill. Basket making particularly intrigued her as she enjoyed working with natural fibers such as plant and wood-based materials. She is essentially self-taught. She learned by reading books, as well as by visiting historical sites and craft fairs to observe other craftsmen weaving. Eventually, she joined High Country Basketry Guild in Virginia. There she was able to learn other techniques working with other basket weavers. Kathy has a Facebook page and Instagram page under Kennebunk Basketry. She sells her baskets at Shaker Village.
