Eric Brakey accepts position in New Hampshire, won’t seek reelection

Senator Eric Brakey announced on Thursday that he has accepted a position in New Hampshire with The Free State Project and will begin work December 1. He said he plans to finish his term and move to New Hampshire in 2024 when his term ends.

According to an article by Steve Collins about Brakey’s announcement, The Free State Project is “a group encouraging libertarian-minded Americans to move to New Hampshire” with a stated mission “to build a homeland for liberty.”

Brakey was elected to represent District 20 (Auburn, New Gloucester, Poland and Durham) in November 2022, defeating Bettyann Sheats in a tight race. He was first elected to the Legislature in 2014 and served two terms in the Senate. Bids for the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives followed in 2018 and 2020.
