Committee announces NG 250th celebration, kickoff bean supper March 16

Not everyone gets to celebrate their 250th birthday. But starting in March, with a traditional bean supper, and ending in September with a parade and a day of celebration at the New Gloucester Fairgrounds, New Gloucester is set to have its biggest celebration ever.

In 2024, we will celebrate the 250th anniversary or semiquincentennial, of the incorporated Town of New Gloucester. The nearly year-long celebration will highlight New Gloucester’s history, people, places, unique features, hidden talents, farm, food, and drink specialties and more with a variety of events throughout the year.

Our kickoff event will take place on March 16, 2024, with a Baked Bean Supper and Birthday Cake Decorating Contest.  The event will be held at the Amvets, 1095 Lewiston Road, New Gloucester, with the doors opening at 5 p.m.  For more information or to enter the contest, please refer to  the Town of New Gloucester website: https://www.newgloucester.com.

Other events will be tied to the season and designed to highlight important features of New Gloucester. Everything from commemorative books to commemorative beer will come your way as the events of the year unfold.

Some highlights include: birthday cake decorating contest, town-wide yard sale, garden tours, field days, church history tour, special commemorative items, exclusive New Gloucester beer and cider, children’s events, a photo contest and more. Look for more information as spring approaches.

The celebration is being organized by the New Gloucester Semiquincentennial Committee which is comprised of members of the New Gloucester Historical Society, town officials and members of the public. For more information about the committee or plans for this celebration, please contact the committee at 250bday@newgloucester.com.
