Charter petitions filed at the town office, June 24

Penny Hilton, left, Town Manager Brenda Fox-Howard, John Salisbury and Steve Hathorne await the reappearance of Town Clerk Sharlene Myers on the morning of Wednesday, June 24. Hilton, Salisbury and Hathorne are part of the group New Gloucester Citizens for a Town Charter, and they stopped by Town Hall to file 39 petitions containing 648 signatures. That figure is approximately 10 percent higher than the 587 valid signatures required to become certified. If that occurs, the question of whether or not to establish a charter commission will appear on the November ballot.
