Castlebay at Village Coffeehouse on Saturday Feb. 6

Castlebay will perform a special concert in celebration of the Celtic cross holiday, Imbolc which is halfway between the winter solstice and the verrnal  equinox.   The patron of Imbolc is St. Brigid whose purview is creativity and new life. She was so revered she became an Irish Saint with whom many miracles are associated and is the patroness of smiths, craftspeople, poets and musicians. Represented as a maiden, she is transformed from the Cailleach, or crone, of winter.  Castlebay will have poems, songs and invocations which explore the various dimensions of Imbolc.
Castlebay members, Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee, have loved and researched traditional music for most of their lives and blend history, legend and experience into their personable performances. Finely crafted ballads with evocative imagery and beautiful melodies depict Maine characters, history, and life close to the elemental beauty of the sea and shore. Their renditions of traditional and original songs are supported with Celtic harp, 12-string guitar, fiddle & woodwinds. Special guests include Holly Morrison and Sue Mack.
The Coffeehouse is in the vestry of the First Congregational Church at 19 Gloucester Hill Road. For more information call 926-3260. Tickets at the door $10. Concert starts at 7:30 pm.castlebay10-94a
