Re: Bomb Threat Incident

At 8:50 this morning, the School Resource Officer (a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department Deputy) identified a credible bomb threat directed toward the middle school. Law enforcement and school personnel coordinated an evacuation of all people in the building. All middle school students and personnel assembled at the high school.

Law enforcement from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, Maine State Police, and Portland Police Department responded to the incident. Three explosives detection dog units conducted a thorough search of the building. The building was declared “clear” and safe for students and staff to return to the middle school at 10:55 a.m. The students and staff are now finishing lunch at the high school and will return to the middle school directly afterward.

Law enforcement officials are conducting a thorough investigation of this criminal act.
