NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — A family living in a duplex is speaking out after the unit next to their own was searched during a Portland Police Department investigation into a drug trafficking network.

The man who lives inside said police fired weapons into his home with no warning. Maine’s Total Coverage reporter Cate McCusker spoke with Harry Bailey who told us his whole family is traumatized.

The incident happened early in the morning on Friday, March 22, as the family was getting ready for work and school. Bailey said they were caught off guard when police started firing what he describes as a gas grenade into his home.

Portland police, with the assistance of the Maine State Police tactical team, executed a high-risk search warrant at 88 Skips Way in New Gloucester in connection with a February shooting and drug trafficking network.

Police later caught two people of interest who fled from the area with guns, cash and almost a pound of cocaine.

The family in the unit next door was home when the warrant was conducted. Bailey said the shots were fired with no warning.

“They just rolled in with three up armored vehicles from the Maine State Police and the Portland Police — three swat team units, and basically just started firing M203 rounds to get people out,” Bailey said.
