Post-election duties, including electing a chair and vice-chair, considering Library Director and Fire Rescue Chief appointments and next steps on the Fairgrounds bathrooms and on the Charter are among items on the Select Board’s June 26 meeting agenda.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Meetinghouse and will be live-streamed on Castus at this link.
Library, Fire Rescue appointments. The board will formally consider Town Manager Bill Kerbin’s appointments of Emily Martin as Library Director and Craig Bouchard as Fire Rescue Chief. Martin joined the library staff in February 2021 as Assistant Librarian and has served as Interim Library Director since Jay Campbell’s departure in May. Bouchard has served as Interim Fire Rescue Chief since Jon Kiernan’s resignation in 2021.
Boards and Committees. Appointments to boards and committees and board members’ own divvying up of liaison responsibilities are on the agenda. The board is aware of contradictory information online about the deadline for submitting applications for appointment to committees, and it’s unclear how they will proceed in the circumstances. Several applications are included in the meeting agenda packet, pp. 12-45.
New Year items. The approach of the next fiscal year on July 1 brings with it business for the Board:
- Scheduling a workshop on the Town Charter, which takes effect July 1;
- Setting a date before early August for a Special Town Meeting to handle FY22 overdrafts and consider using $500,000 from the town’s Undesignated Fund Balance to offset taxes; find a snapshot of relevant accounts at p. 52;
- Town Meeting voters approved funding for bathrooms at the Fairgrounds. What happens next?
Other items:
- The board will discuss the charge of the Public Safety Committee. Read the current one at p.46;
- The Library Board of Trustees has updated its by-laws to include Youth Trustee positions for two high school students. The board will take a look. (pp.47-51).
