I met with Anne a few weeks ago to discuss her ideas, and to learn about her history in Gray and her experience in the public sector. While it was great to hear about her time on the Comprehensive Plan Committee, the School Board, and the Town Council over the past three decades, what she really wanted to me to see was what happens when communities come together. She took me to the trail system that now connects downtown Gray with the greater community. A simple path that resulted from the Bike-Ped Committee that she started and the Bike-Ped plan that she wrote and the Recreational Trails Grant that she helped secure.
More importantly, the trail got people out of their homes, meeting others in a healthy environment, gaining independence. As we walked, we talked about the importance of interconnectedness – both physical and social. You could see it on the faces of the people – mostly senior citizens with their walking sticks – on the pathways. Happy people. Celebrating their community and – perhaps more importantly – giving them the motivation to improve their health. Everyone knew Anne and appreciated what she had done or inspired others to do.
Maine is facing many challenges. Anne has working experience in affordable housing, education, revenue sharing… to name but a few. She has worked – and continues to work – effectively with people of different backgrounds and political persuasions. We need a strong, experienced, and independent leader to turn these challenges into opportunities.
Positive change… it’s in her DNA.
Please join me in voting for Anne Gass for the Maine House of Representatives, District 104.
Thank you!
