
Absentee voting for the fall 2025 election begins October 6.
Voters may request an absentee ballot using one of the following methods:
• Online request
• Telephone request- A voter may request a ballot by telephone at New Gloucester Town Hall (926-4126). The clerk completes an application. The clerk verifies the voter’s identity by confirming the voter’s residence and date of birth.
• Written request (received by mail, fax or in person). The address for Town Hall is 385 Intervale Rd., New Gloucester, ME 04260. A voter may request a ballot by completing an application. The clerk mails the ballot to the voter at the address listed on the application, or gives the ballot to the voter in person. No witnesses are needed unless the voter is assisted. The voter returns the ballot by mail, in person to the clerk, or by dropping the ballot in signed envelope in the official ballot box in front of Town Hall.
Voting absentee at Town Hall
The voter may cast their ballot at Town Hall during normal business hours. No application is needed. The ballot is witnessed by the clerk, deputy or assistant.
Absentee ballot availability
Absentee ballots are available approximately 30 days prior to Election Day. Only voters with special qualifying circumstances will be able to request a ballot during the three day period immediately preceding Election Day.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot, including a ballot voted in the presence of the clerk, is three days prior to the election, unless the voter completes a special circumstances application, stating one of four allowable reasons for requesting a ballot after the deadline:
• an unexpected absence from the municipality during the entire time the polls are open on Election Day;
• A physical disability;
• An inability to travel to the polls because the voter is a resident of a coastal island or precinct;
• An incapacity or illness that has resulted in the voter being unable to leave home or a treatment facility.
