A no-brainer: Vote NO on article 2

|Phil Vampatella|

As a resident of this community for 46 years, I must admit that I can’t remember an issue quite like our current library battle. Over the years, I have been asked by out of state visitors, “why are your taxes so high? You don’t get much in the way of public services. No public water or sewage, no trash pickup…my God, you don’t even have a policeman”! My answer has always been, “yes, but we have a magnificent fire station and a great little library.”

And now our board of selectmen (women, people, whatever is PC these days), in its great wisdom, has chosen to diminish even this terrific little facility and its services by picking a fight with the residents of the community over what amounts to $18,000! Surely the selectfolks have bigger issues to deal with other than risking the loss of a talented long time employee like our assistant librarian!

I don’t often get involved with town politics, but this issue is so offensive to me that I feel I must speak out. The people of the community have made their position clear… restore the assistant librarian’s hours and benefits and put this issue to rest! If the Town Meeting form of government is truly the purest form of democracy, this is a no-brainer!! Vote NO on article two!!
