Sheriff identifies Maine 18-year-old severely injured in crash involving deer

WMTW reports:

A New Gloucester teenager was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash in Castine on Thursday night.

Two other men in the car were also taken to the hospital with injuries. The crash was reported around 8:30 p.m.

Thomas Spurling, 18, was heading south on Castine Road when he hit a deer, went off the road and struck a tree, the sheriff said. Spurling was flown by medical helicopter to a Bangor hospital.

A man from Rhode Island and a man from Massachusetts were passengers in the vehicle and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff said.

According to the sheriff, all three were wearing their seat belts.
