Another trooper injured in rear-end crash on turnpike in NG

For the second time in just over a week, a Maine State Trooper has been injured when his cruiser was struck from behind while parked in a breakdown lane of the Maine Turnpike.

Trooper Ryan Keller was parked at mile 70 in New Gloucester, on the northbound side of the highway, when the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Friday, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Keep reading in Portland Press Herald

Sheriff identifies Maine 18-year-old severely injured in crash involving deer

WMTW reports:

A New Gloucester teenager was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash in Castine on Thursday night.

Two other men in the car were also taken to the hospital with injuries. The crash was reported around 8:30 p.m.

Thomas Spurling, 18, was heading south on Castine Road when he hit a deer, went off the road and struck a tree, the sheriff said. Spurling was flown by medical helicopter to a Bangor hospital.

A man from Rhode Island and a man from Massachusetts were passengers in the vehicle and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff said.

According to the sheriff, all three were wearing their seat belts.

Local man injured in serious single car crash

A single-vehicle crash Friday night on Cambell Shore Road in Gray ripped the car into two pieces and trapped the driver inside, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday.

Upon arriving at the crash scene about 10:20 p.m., personnel from the sheriff’s office and Gray Fire and Rescue found a 2008 Honda Civic in the woods off the south side of Cambell Shore Road. The car had hit a tree and split in two, Chief Deputy Naldo Gagnon said in a statement. Keep reading

New Gloucester man pleads not guilty to manslaughter

A New Gloucester man whose car crossed the centerline and fatally struck a motorcyclist in 2017 pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a manslaughter charge.

Steven Primavera, 34, appeared in Androscoggin County Superior Court a month after a grand jury handed up an indictment for the felony, punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Primavera remains free on $1,000 cash bail with special conditions of no possession of alcohol or illegal drugs. Keep reading
